In 2024, Men’s U23 Cross-Country Olympic (XCO) cyclist Luke Moir announced that he had signed with Cube Factory Racing’s Next Generation cross country team, joining some of the world’s most talented up and coming young riders on the cross country and downhill racing scene. A dream come true for the XCO cyclist; it was an equally proud moment for his sponsors at Dynamic Technologies.

When the Dynamic Technologies Group first began sponsoring Luke Moir, it was because group CEO Chris Wilkins saw his potential and wanted to be part of nurturing it. Moir had impressed Wilkins with his sheer grit, determination, and talent, and he knew that a corporate sponsorship would help Moir immeasurably with the international racing required to expand on that foundation.

Wilkins says, “Dynamic Technologies has been built on ambition and hard work, so we know what it takes to get to the top of the game. Assisting Luke in these first few years, where international racing experience is critical to being signed by a professional European team, means he can focus on what he does best: riding his bike and achieving his goals.”

Moir’s first World Cup races in 2022 were an intense introduction to the highly competitive international XCO scene. A gruelling race schedule paired with a South African base for Moir meant he had to dig deep to produce his best results – and he did. These were noticed by Cube Factory Racing. Cube, a well-known German bike manufacturer, welcomed him to their cross-country (XC) team in January 2024, saying, “We couldn’t be more excited about the new season we have ahead of us with this incredible team.” They added, “The goal is to give talented young riders the opportunity to develop as athletes and step up to the respective pro team.”

For Moir, this is a big move towards achieving his ultimate goal of racing XCO at the highest level professionally. He says, “It’s a dream come true to sign with a European team; it’s a massive step forward in my career and it shows the hard work is finally paying off. It’s been a combination of teamwork, a great support system, and awesome sponsors to help get me where I am today.”

Unfortunately, bad luck struck when Moir was seriously injured, requiring surgery and significant rehab for a broken fibula before the start of the 2024 season. Thanks to an excellent team focused on getting him back on the bike, as well as his own tenacity, Moir fought his way back onto the track, and onto the podium. In March 2024 he took 5th place overall at the Cape Town Cycle Tour (1st in the Men’s U23 Category). April saw Moir compete in the first two rounds of the World Cup Circuit in Brazil where he placed 5th and 6th respectively, setting him up for the rest of the season in Europe. In May, Moir became the South African U23 XCO champion.

In a scant five months, 2024 has already proved to be a tough yet successful year for the 21-year-old, and he is fired up for the rest of the season.

Having the right support team, and part of that is undoubtedly sponsors such as DTH, is crucial for the success of young athletes in South Africa. Without that support, getting to those international races and being noticed by international teams would be almost impossible. Moir says, “I wouldn’t be where I am today without this support, it’s awesome.” For Dynamic Technologies, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing that potential begin to bloom.
