A firm favourite on the UCI circuit, the Les Gets World Cup course is tough, technical, and unforgiving. Spirits were high during the walk-through and training, but once again race day proved to be unpredictable. With his pedal coming out soon after the start, Luke’s XCC race on Friday 05 July was off to a rocky start. Despite catching the group, he was in last place on the first climb, and it was, quite literally, an uphill battle from there. Feeling the missed base training due to his ankle injury at the start of the year, Luke was both mentally and physically fatigued. Clawing his way back to P27, it was his toughest race of the year. Sunday 07 July saw Luke take to the XCO race with a fourth row start and not a lot of confidence – though to his surprise he felt pretty good! After reeling in a number of riders, Luke finished P12. More than happy with this outcome, Luke heads back to South Africa to put in some solid training ahead of World Champs at the end of August.
