Pumza Goyi is the Operations Coordinator at Emerald Consulting, a Dynamic Technologies group company. Promoted to this role in early 2025, it reflects her hands-on approach, her keen interest in all aspects of the business and her ability to solve tricky problems with confidence.
“I have always enjoyed working with people and being able to help where I can,” says Pumza. “My career has taken me through various areas of the business, including HR, finance, administration and operations. This comes in handy as my current role involves multiple HR functions, personnel support and financial and administrative work.” It’s this variety that keeps her engaged and interested every day.
Pumza’s relationship with Hanri Edwards, MD of Emerald Consulting, drew her into the company. “I saw joining the company as a chance to grow, learn and be part of something new. Six years later, I’m glad I did. Having someone who believed in me and gave me an opportunity made a real difference, and I’m grateful to Hanri for being part of my Emerald journey.”
Reflecting on her time with the company, she says, “One of my biggest milestones was being promoted to Operations Coordinator last year; it felt like recognition of the work and growth that had happened over the years. My years at Emerald have taught me that growth doesn’t often happen overnight. Sometimes you look back and realise just how far you’ve come.”
Pumza says she has met some special people at Emerald Consulting. “I value the relationships and connections I’ve made along the way. I think when you have a place where you feel valued, trusted and given the opportunity to grow, it becomes more than simply a job.”
As a work-from-home company, proactive communications and supporting the people Pumza works with are key to running the business successfully. “I enjoy helping people. Even if it’s something small like answering a question or helping a colleague understand a process, I like knowing that I’ve made something a little easier for them; I enjoy being that person who people can come to. I also enjoy the fact that HR is never boring. There’s always something happening, something to learn or something that needs to be figured out.”
To Pumza, Diversity by Inclusion is about making sure that people feel comfortable being themselves and knowing that their voice matters. “Everyone comes from a different background and has different experiences, and that can be a strength in a workplace. In consulting, we constantly work with different people and businesses, so having different perspectives helps us consider and understand things from more than one point of view.”
Her motto of ‘just keep going’ is simple but telling. She says, “There have been times when I’ve felt unsure about what I was doing or whether I was doing enough. But I’ve learnt that you don’t always need to have everything figured out. Sometimes you just need to keep showing up, learning and being ready to take the next step.
“I also try to remember to be kind. You never really know what someone else is dealing with behind the scenes so if I can make someone's day a little easier, I will. Looking back at my years at Emerald, I think that’s probably what I’m most proud of – that I have kept going, kept learning and kept growing.”
