Lloyd Hendricks, Practice Head for Mobile App Services at DVT

Lloyd Hendricks is the Practice Head for Mobile App Services at DVT, a Dynamic Technologies group company, leading the strategic and technical direction across native iOS (Swift, SwiftUI), Android (Kotlin) and cross-platform technologies (Flutter, React Native). His role involves capability development, mentoring, scaling the delivery team and collaborating with clients to design state-of-the-art mobile solutions. He also focuses on embedding AI capabilities within apps, particularly intelligent agents, AI Vision and Text integrations and voice-driven experiences to create smarter, user-centric mobile products.

Lloyd, who holds a BTech in IT: Software Development from Nelson Mandela University, has been with DVT for over four years now. “I was drawn to DVT by its reputation for all-round excellence and a culture that values innovation. I saw an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to its mobile practice and expand the impact of mobile in a fast-evolving digital landscape.”

For Lloyd, working at DVT gives him the freedom to turn his vision into reality. “DVT has empowered me to build a practice around trust, innovation and mentorship,” he says. “I believe in a space where developers can grow into cross-stack specialised leaders while delivering high-impact client solutions.”

One of Lloyd’s greatest rewards is watching developers grow into confident, multi-skilled professionals, as is helping his teams bring real-world ideas to life through different technologies such as mobile SDKs, AI-powered apps or business-aligned solutions.

Lloyd recently wrote an article for IT Web titled The rise of AI agents in mobile apps in which he explores the practical transition happening between AI and mobile. He says, “It’s not about the hype, but rather how we can leverage AI agents that are going to reshape app experiences from the user’s perspective today. From in-app support bots to personalised task automation, the rise of AI agents is shifting how we think about apps today.”

DVT takes a holistic approach to AI, ensuring that it’s always leveraged to meet their client’s needs and directed by the teams on the ground, who ensure that they are building reliable, scalable solutions for their clients while harnessing the speed, agility and power of AI. As Lloyd explains, “We focus on education, context and grounded exploration. We walk clients through what AI can realistically achieve in their environment and, as importantly, where it can’t deliver in their environments. Our role is to bridge the gap between aspiration and implementation by understanding AI and guiding them toward value-driven adoption.”

Motivated by solving real-world problems and shifting the industry mindset away from competition toward collaboration as the engine for change, Lloyd believes in a mobile ecosystem where talent, tools and ideas flow freely because that’s where real impact is. He says, “In the short term, my goal is to solidify DVT’s Mobile Practice position as an industry leader in mobile, known for delivery, innovation and thought leadership. This means skilling our teams to build apps and enhance experiences that matter, all the while equipping them with the tools they need.”

He adds, “In the longer term, I’m focused on creating value through performance and helping our teams to unlock their full potential by upskilling beyond the frontend. That includes deepening our strength in backend systems and scalable architectures so that our mobile solutions are not just beautiful, but resilient, intelligent and future-ready.”

Being involved in a dynamic business working with fast-moving technologies is something Lloyd enjoys, and the future looks bright. “Mobile is evolving from being a tool we interact with to becoming a true pocket assistant woven into our daily lives. In the near future, I see a surge in SDK development that allows apps to plug into intelligent ecosystems from personalised health insights to productivity tools, all powered by AI.” He adds, “Voice assistance integration will become more fluid as AI evolves and we’re moving into conversational and predictive experiences that anticipate intent and reduce friction. Voice will become a key interface for smarter, hands-free interaction with our mobile apps.

“Most importantly, instead of bloated feature sets we’ll see a rise in simple, targeted apps that solve focused problems well. AI will help strip away unnecessary complexity and allow developers to produce precise and value-adding mobile experiences.” For Lloyd, the future of mobile is about real-time value. “Apps must position themselves not just as tools, but as trusted assistants that work with us, in the background, enabling us to live and work better.”
