Racing in Greece was an invaluable experience for Luke. Facing a competitive field that included several top European riders, Luke managed to give a good account of himself. He finished the first three races in 6th, 7th and 12th. position respectively, and also managed 12th in his last race. Very sadly, the festival was cut short when the country went into mourning after a devastating rail crash.
The Salamina bike festival comprises seven Cross Country Olympic (XCO) races over 10 days. The races vary from Cat 2 to HC-rated for World Tour (UCI) ranking points. Luke gathered 30 UCI points towards his world ranking, but unfortunately crashed on the road whilst riding home from the second race. Despite this, he remained competitive in both the Elite Men and U23 categories. He also suffered another crash while on a training ride, this time going into the back of a vehicle on the road. This is not an uncommon occurrence for riders out training in Europe, and Luke was lucky to walk away with only minor injuries. His results for the races were as follows: 23 Feb - 6th, 24 Feb - 7th, 26 Feb - 12th, 1 Mar - 12th.
