CloudSmiths Golf Day raises awareness for prostate cancer

The 8th annual CloudSmiths Charity Golf Day held on 22 October 2019 saw close on R30 000 being raised in support of the Prostrate Cancer Foundation SA. The event was held at the Houghton Golf Club in Johannesburg and attended by 60 golfers. The funds will help to support efforts to raise awareness about prostate cancer and to educate men about the importance of screening for early detecting.

CloudSmiths’ sister companies in the Dynamic Technologies group, DVT, Dynamic Talent and Inspired Testing also contributed as part of their ongoing 1% pledge to volunteer a portion of their time, resources and products for the upliftment of communities.

Salesforce donated prizes for the winning 4-ball and for the goody bags upon arrival. Additional sponsorship was generously provided by The Pro Shop, Hines & Harley Men’s Grooming Lounge and Media24; as well as SparkSmiths, The King James Group, Flowgear, Jitterbit Galderma and Cetaphil.

The day out on the course provided an opportunity for everyone in the Salesforce eco-system to get involved – from competitors, to clients and partners. The day ended with a prize-giving dinner and a charity auction of some sought-after sporting memorabilia. A meaningful R20 000 was raised from the tournament, with an additional R8 720 raised from the charity auction.

While genetics and aging can increase the risk of prostate cancer, staying healthy as you age, or working to reverse existing health problems, can lower your risk. A healthy diet and exercise, as well as healthy habits (quit smoking and drink in moderation) do play an important role. Together with these mitigating factors, early detection is crucial.
