Two Dynamic Technologies group companies, DVT and CloudSmiths, proudly observed Mandela Day on 18 July by supporting several worthy causes. An international day celebrating the life and legacy of South Africa’s iconic President Nelson Mandela, it’s an opportunity for reflection and community action with the aim of changing lives for the better.
CloudSmiths teams in Johannesburg, Cape Town and the UK participated in the company’s Peeps and Pups drive to bring warmth to people and animals this winter. Employees were encouraged to donate blankets or make a cash donation that would be matched by CloudSmiths. Successfully raising R10 700, the matching donation from CloudSmiths took the total to an impressive R21 400. The donation is being split, with 70% (R14 980) being used to buy blankets for local animal rescue group Kitty and Puppy Haven as well as The Angel Network, a national NPO servicing some of the countries most impoverished communities. The remaining R6 420 will be presented as a cash donation to Cataholics Kitty Shelter.
Caryn Schalit, Chief People Officer at CloudSmiths, says, “Mandela Day provides an opportunity for us all to show up with kindness and generosity, and our team did not disappoint! It fills me with immense pride to see our community getting involved in Mandela Day through the Peeps and Pups blanket drive – a cause our remote and distributed team could all get behind. Every person who chose to donate showed up with big hearts, and the donation match from CloudSmiths truly embodies the spirit of who we are.”

DVT teams were encouraged to support local initiatives and charities. The Eastern Cape team handed over donations of much-needed wish-list items, including warm blankets, to Animal Welfare Society Port Elizabeth. The Joburg team spent their 67 minutes donating warm meals and preparing sandwiches for the Francis of Assisi feeding scheme in Parkview. Additionally, the annual #DVTMoveForCharity Challenge takes place throughout July, and DVT members have once again been participating enthusiastically. With a week left to reach their goal of R30 000, DVT team members have already clocked up 44 336 minutes and raised over R22 000! The recipient will be announced in August.
Chriss Visser, MD at DVT South Africa, says, “Even a small gesture speaks to the spirit of Ubuntu – helping where we can with what we have. We’re dedicated to having a positive impact on our community, especially on Mandela Day.”
