Dynamic Technologies-sponsored young XCO cyclist makes his mark on the world stage

When Dynamic Technologies began sponsoring Luke Moir in January 2023, he was a fresh-faced, young and upcoming Olympic Cross Country (XCO) U23 rider eager to take on the cycling world. Now racing in the elite category for the first time this year, nothing has changed. Moir’s fiercely competitive nature has him chasing his dreams and facing off with some of the best riders in the sport on the international stage.

Disaster struck early this year when the new Swiss team that the 22-year-old Moir had signed with in October 2024 suddenly admitted they had not secured a main sponsor, which left the riders in a terrible predicament. Teams for 2025 had been finalised and there was nowhere for them to go. As a South Africa-based rider when most teams are European, Moir was left with one option – become a privateer and do it on his own. After finishing 8th overall in the U23 category last year, he knew he had to find a way.

Dynamic Technologies remained solidly in Moir’s corner, and the cyclist and his local support system, led by his father, Mark Moir, got busy securing further private sponsorship that would allow Luke to take his place on the start lines of the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series held across countries in Europe and North and South America. Through sheer force of will, they made it happen.

The first two races of the year took place in Araxá, a municipality in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Boasting world-renowned courses, this Brazilian leg of the series is a hot favourite among contenders and spectators alike. Moir achieved solid results in the first short track (XCC) and XCO events, finishing 17th and 19th respectively. The following week he took to the second set of World Cup courses, but the XCC seemed to signal trouble ahead as a puncture lead to Moir being unable to finish the race. This negatively affected his start row for the XCO and made his task even harder.

But adversity has never slowed Moir down; it’s one of the reasons Dynamic Technologies group CEO Chris Wilkins was determined to help support and develop the young rider. In a stunning move, Moir placed fifth in the XCO, breaking into the top five in the world in only his second race as an Elite rider. This moves him to 11th in the elite men’s XCO World Cup rankings and has cemented his reputation as a young rider to be reckoned with.

Wilkins says, “Dynamic Technologies has been built on ambition and hard work, so we know what it takes to get to the top of the game. Luke is an exceptionally talented and dedicated athlete. His work ethic and ambition are a foundation for greatness.” And it’s this support that is helping a talented athlete achieve his dreams – life-changing stuff indeed!
