One of the beautiful things about South Africa is the diverse heritage of its people, no matter where they are in the world. For Dynamic Technologies Group companies, encouraging employees to embrace their cultures and traditions is simply part of their ethos of diversity by inclusion.
Heritage Day, celebrated each year on 24 September, recognises the rich cultural diversity of South Africa as South Africans come together to remember – and share - their culture and traditions.
“Strength lies in differences, not similarities” – Steven Covey, Author of 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
Inspired Testing Delivery Managers Lindiwe Gagela and Izak Burger may have celebrated a little differently, but the respect and admiration they hold for each other’s cultures is just one example of the importance of inclusion in the Dynamic Technologies Group.
Lindiwe says, “Inspired Testing is a global company that promotes an open-minded, universal company culture, which helps us as employees better understand our colleagues and clients. We observe diverse traditions, celebrations, and holidays from different cultures.”
Izak agrees, adding, “It comes naturally for Inspired Testing to support diversity and welcome cultural differences. It is the attitude and spirit of the people at Inspired Testing that allows us all to be true to ourselves. From different beliefs and different cultures to different hairstyles and different lifestyles, we are encouraged to embrace and most importantly respect our differences, while working together to achieve a common goal.”
It may seem like a simple matter of respect, but being accepted in this way can be life-changing in a world that all too often demands conformity. “For me, it means feeling comfortable, respected, and appreciated,” explains Lindiwe. “This type of environment allows us to share creative ideas and unique approaches to common problems without being judged or undermined.”
Being surrounded by a wealth of different cultures and approaches is also an enriching experience. “I can be myself and at the same time learn from the wide diversity of those who work alongside me as valued colleagues,” says Izak. “This freedom brings out the best in me, and in all of us, allowing us to perform at our best without being sidetracked by our differences.”
For Inspired Testing, celebrating events such as Heritage Day have import beyond the personal. Izak says, “In the busy times we live in, we often forget the value that diversity of culture and heritage brings to us personally and in a business context. This day serves as a reminder to appreciate and respect it, and most of all it provides an invaluable opportunity to enjoy a good old braai with family or friends.”
Lindiwe agrees, “It’s important because it reminds not only our South African colleagues, but our global colleagues as well, to celebrate the uniqueness of all people through their cultures and traditions.”
