CloudSmiths gets behind School of Hard Knocks

In July of this year, CloudSmiths sponsored a very successful eight-week youth development programme run by the School of Hard Knocks (SoHK) in partnership with the award-winning youth development organisation Ikamva Youth. Cloudsmiths were so impressed with the efforts of SoHK in addressing youth unemployment – described by President Cyril Ramaphosa as South Africa’s biggest problem – that they pledged a sponsorship to SoHK at a Rugby Business Network event in April 2019. Jason Timm (Sales Director and Founder of Cloudsmiths) commented: “We were so moved by what School of Hard Knocks is doing that we felt the need to contribute and encourage other corporates to donate too”.

CloudSmith’s pledge to Father A Nation for Women’s Month

Gender violence was high on the agenda at the start of South African Women’s Month, August 2019. Living the Salesforce 1% pledge, Jason Timm (MD of CloudSmiths) spent time with Father A Nation (FAN) to understand the challenges facing people living in Alexandra in Gauteng. The Salesforce 1% pledge encourages individuals to give 1% of their company time to help an NGO or a good cause of their choice. Jason Timm has set the tone by giving two hours per month of his work time, and two hours per month of his personal time, to mentoring young men on behalf of FAN.

Inspired Testing gets inspired for Mandela Day, 18 July 2019

The Cape Town and Johannesburg staff of Inspired Testing rolled up their sleeves to do their 67 minutes (and more) for Nelson Mandela Day 2019. It was an inspirational day for everyone as they gave back to the community in the spirit of Mandela Day – “to spread social justice and freedom for all”. Cape Town staff delivered 18 boxes containing 172 hygiene packs to ‘The Haven Night Shelter’ in Napier Street, to assist the shelter with their mission of rehabilitating and reintegrating homeless adults back into the community, and reuniting them with their families where possible.

The power of natural strengths

The journey of developing one’s potential in a business environment begins with knowing your personal areas of excellence, or your strengths. However, the opportunity to develop your strengths largely depends on the organisation culture. In an organisation that has built a culture of inclusion and diversity, employees are better able to take advantage of their development opportunities. Inclusion ensures that every person is treated equally and has the same opportunities to develop their potential, while diversity is about respecting, valuing and appreciating what makes each individual different. Understanding one’s strengths in a scientific way gives individuals insight into why each person has their own way of seeing things – which is one of the core tenets of diversity.
